Day 43, Kangaroos and Alligator Book

TDS is having a Thanksgiving Food Drive. The information is in the Thursday Thunder. The class that collects the most food will win a pizza lunch. The drive is from Monday, Nov. 8 to Friday, Nov. 19 when the food will be brought to the Food Bank. Each class should decorate a box and collect the kosher cans or packages of food. There are many items one can get at the $1 Store.

Tomorrow is spaghetti lunch.

Today, the spelling test system was much much better. I held up the word and the students wrote it down. This emphasized reading, spelling, and writing the words. Then I gave everyone 3 sight words which we have learned from the beginning of school. As I called out the words, they covered it with a cube. As each one had all three covered, they would call out bingo. Everyone had a bingo!

Due to my camera battery running out, I didn't get pictures of the alligator books we worked on. I will take pictures tomorrow.

Day 40 Mrs. G's absence

Today I was at the BJE's teacher workshop, so Morah E stayed for the whole day. Thank you Morah for subbing for me!

Tomorrow we will do the spelling test in a different format. The children will play bingo with their sight words and volunteer to read or spell them. I have found that the spelling tests are too hard for many of the students and I don't want them to feel frustrated or incompetent. I will continue to send home words for them to practice and build on.This week we will be working on Letter Kk and continue with alligators and other reptiles.

Another reminder to not let your children bring toys to school. They become a distraction to them. They are allowed to bring playground toys or objects that pertain to the lesson, such as a book about alligators or crocodiles.
